Dr Mahruf Shohel has more than 15 years working experience in academia. He started his academic career while he was a doctoral research student at the University of Manchester. Since than he has been working for British academia in different universities both in teaching and research roles.

Teaching, Assessment and Moderation
Dr Mahruf Shohel's educational background and work experience provided him the opportunities to utilise his skills and expertise in education, childhood and international development, teaching and learning, and educational research methods. His primary teaching interests include education and international development, globalisation and education, education for sustainable development, nonformal education and community development, childhood in society, childhood poverty and education, teachers' professional development, technology for enhancing teaching and learning, inclusive innovation in education, gender and education, urbanisation and climate change as well as research methodologies (both qualitative and quantitative).

Research, Monitoring and Evaluation
Dr Mahruf Shohel's research is very much related to the broader field of education and international development from which most of his research works and publications have been derived. His research has particularly focused on areas of teaching and learning; education and development; school transition; using technology for enhancing teaching; teachers' professional development; and nonformal education and community development. Throughout these themes he has engaged with a critical analysis of the equity and social justice issues, with specific emphasis on access to education and learning for disadvantaged children. His research interests include ecological systems theory and transition in educational settings with the application of mixed method longitudinal interpretative studies to explore the experience of individual students.
Dr Shohel has been researching on different developmental issues including teaching and learning in primary, secondary and tertiary levels. |
Administrative, Voluntary and Others Works
Dr Shohel has been serving outside the academia i.e. as a member of different advisory boards as well as working as a volunteer in different capacities. He worked as a volunteer teaching assistant at a primary school under the widening participation programme run by the University of Manchester. He also worked as volunteer learning assistant at the MKSNAP to support learning activities of people with special learning needs. Currently he is working as a volunteer to raising funds for the MK Play Association.
